QUEANBEYAN SQUASH CLUB

Squash in Queanbeyan has a long and proud history dating back to the 1960’s and 1970’s – unearthing international talents such as Heather McKay and Kellie Cuschieri. Squash in Queanbeyan was reborn in 1979 when the Leagues Club courts and the High Street ('Heather McKay') courts were opened. The High Street Courts were turned into a gym only facility at the beginning of the 1990s, and the Queanbeyan Club from High Street (led by Heather Aubrey and Lorraine Fitzgerald) merged with the Queanbeyan Leagues Club Squash Club (led by Phil Gallagher). Unfortunately after nearly 30 years, the Leagues Club courts were closed in 2007 when the upkeep of the building became too expensive. Despite the closure of the courts, the club has continued to grow and become renowned for its activities on and off the court. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and social bunch, hosting regular social events and road trips to other towns for weekend competitions with other clubs. Our home courts are presently at the University of Canberra and we enjoy a good mix of both southside and northside players."

MASTERS

ACT Masters Squash is an established squash association which has been operating in Canberra since 1980. We welcome all squash players, regardless of level, aged 35 and over. To play Masters Squash all you need is a racquet and some enthusiasm for having a good time with good company and getting some exercise while you do it. You don’t have to be a seasoned ‘squashie’. ACT Masters prides itself on offering a friendly way to play squash, where you can be as competitive as you like or not as long as you play with good humour and commitment to the enjoyment of everyone. This is what we call ‘the Masters Spirit’!
If you have recently ‘retired’ from playing squash, are thinking about it, haven’t played for a while and would like to start again, or are a beginner, why don’t you come along and try the Masters approach. We run three competitions a year, played on Monday and Wednesday nights starting at 7.30 pm. On Monday’s we play alternating between Woden and Dickson courts, and on Wednesday nights at Weston Creek Community Centre and Woden. These regular competitions are mixed and graded so that all standards of squash ability are catered for, from top grades to beginners.
